A man confesses. A psychotherapist, he has just published Changer le monde (Changing the World), a book in which he reveals a revolutionary method designed to cure men of all their ills. Less reflection, more action! That’s the essence of this shock therapy, which he himself applied in order to conquer the woman he has always been secretly in love with.
There is one small problem, however: our man is now in a psychiatric ward. A tragedy has occurred in his environment. Day after day, a doctor and a nurse visit him and collect his “revelations”.
In the manner of a police investigation, we discover little by little his past, as well as the turbulent relationships with his family and patients which led him to write Changer le monde... and take action.

With the rantings of this unhinged, egocentric, manipulative, demagogic, and deeply in denial shrink, Denis Michelis offers us a tragi-comedy that is more topical than ever on the constant threat of populism, the temptations and dangers of the simplification of thought—as well as offering a laugh!

The author

Born in 1980 in Siegen, Germany, Denis Michelis arrived in France at the age of six. After studying literature, English and journalism, he became an editor for cultural programmes on ARTE and then France 5. His speciality: interviews with... writers! In 2013, he decided to stop television to write and translate. His first novel La chance que tu as appeared with Stock in 2014. Le bon fils in 2016 in the Notabilia collection. He will be a finalist for the Prix Médicis and will be awarded the Prix des Lycéens en Île-de-France 2018. In terms of translations, Les Pleureuses by Katie Kitamura (Stock) was published in 2017 and Peur by Dirk Kurbjuweit (Delcourt) in 2018. During these years of conversion from journalism to writing, Denis Michelis also completed two training courses as screenwriter.

Strong points

The main character is a populist guru a la Trump or Raoult, perfectly in tune with the times.

In this fourth novel, Denis Michelis pursues the themes that are dear to him (madness, the massive destruction of the family) while borrowing from the codes of the thriller with a decidedly humorous tone!

An author always welcomed by the press and critics.

Press

“Denis Michelis continues to slice family relationships into thin strips.”

Christine Ferniot, Télérama.
