A tumultuous novel about the science that destroys human beings.

Province of Quebec, 1942. On Grosse-Île, in the German U-boat-fished St. Lawrence River, the American, British and Canadian governments set up a top-secret project. Dozens of scientists are brought together in the greatest secrecy to develop a new bacteriological weapon. Decades later, during a heatwave on an unprecedented scale, bouts of rabies sweep through the small town of Montmagny and the surrounding area. It seems to spread like an epidemic as the strikes multiply.

Mireille Gagné is inventive in this second novel, a subtle, breathless ecological book that recommends listening to what living things are trying to say: balance is a state to be rediscovered.
