Gary Shteyngart was born in 1972 in Saint Petersburg. He left the Soviet Union in 1978 and arrived in the United States in 1979. After graduating from Oberlin College with a degree in political science, he published his first novel, The Russian Debutante’s Handbook, which was enthusiastically received around the world. This was followed by Absurdistan, Super Sad True Love Story, and Lake Success (2020).
